Parent and Child Kur (health spa) treatments

Tochter und Vater schauen in die Ferne. © rawpixel.com© rawpixel.comA parent and child Kur treatment is a three-week medical rest cure paid for by your health insurance provider. You can apply for one usually every four years.

A Kur is intended to prevent or treat health problems caused by factors such as chronic stress, allergies, obesity or lack of exercise.

Other common reasons for a Kur treatment include increased susceptibility to infection, respiratory diseases or parental psychosomatic disorders.

Children up to the age of 12 can accompany a parent or where required can themselves undergo treatment.

There is a statutory surcharge of € 10 per day, though the total payable is capped at 2% of annual income or 1% for people with a chronic condition. This statutory surcharge is waived if you have an exemption certificate.

If you are unable to pay the surcharge, you can often obtain financial assistance from a foundation.

Kur treatment is considered a medically necessary service and employers are not entitled to treat a parent and child Kur as annual leave.
